Rinku Kumar produced a gem of an innings for Alubond Tigers to wrap up the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council Ramadan Twenty20 Cup against One Stop Tourism (OST) on Saturday.
Rinku arrived at the crease at the fall of the second wicket in the second over and was last out after an excellent 60-ball 94 when his team required eight runs from seven balls for victory.
OST arrived at Zayed Cricket Stadium buoyed by their triumph in the Ramadan Cup final in Dubai the previous night.
They looked as if they were on course to add a second trophy in as many days at one point but were denied by Rinku’s heroic effort at the crease.
Rinku hit eight fours and five sixes, and in the middle of his inning he carted the UAE spinner Ahmed Raza for 20 in one over.
Fayyaz Ahmed, another former UAE international, produced a cameo 19 not out off 11 balls to complete the win.
“The Zayed Stadium has been a lucky venue for us but tonight it was all about one player – Rinku,” Nasir Aziz, the Alubond captain and former UAE national team all-rounder, said.
“He won the game single-handedly for us. We lost two early wickets and the pressure was on from the second over.
“But Rinku was brilliant.
“He took total control out there in the middle even as wickets continued to fall.”
Such is Alubond’s stranglehold on this tournament, their three-wicket win over OST in at Zayed Cricket Stadium was their fifth Ramadan Cup title in Abu Dhabi in six years.
Alubond are challenging for two more Ramadan Cup titles during the Holy month, in Sharjah and Ajman, as they bid to complete their season on a high.
They will meet the winner of OST and Sharjah in tonight’s final at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium and are in the semi-finals in Ajman.
Alubond had earlier won the Bukhatir League and finished second in the Gold Cup in Al Dhaid.
