DUBAI // An unemployed Emirati who kicked a policeman on the leg after the officer allegedly yelled at his mother will spend three years in jail.
The man, who was involved in drugs, was convicted of assault by Dubai Criminal Court on Sunday.
Police were tipped off that the 25-year-old defendant was in possession of and using drugs. They investigated, obtained an arrest warrant against him and the arrest team went to his home in Al Warqa on February 15.
“We searched the man and his house and found tramadol pills as well as some tools inside his bedroom often used in taking drugs. As we were leaving his room, he kicked me in the leg, claiming that I screamed at his mother to remain inside the house until the search and the arrest is over,” said a policeman, 35.
The accused was tested for drugs and his results returned positive.
He was confronted with charges of assaulting a police officer, possessing six tramadol pills and consuming drugs, all of which he denied in court in April.
In addition to his jail sentence, he was fined Dh20,000.
